Video Surveillance has revolutionised the traditional alarm system, with the use of CCTV cameras property owners are able to monitor and record an incident for further review and possible identification of an intruder.
With a traditional alarm systems it can typically take longer to verify an intruder before alerting the police to the location but with Video Surveillance technology it is possible to verify an intruder quickly, allowing the police to be notified within minutes of a break-in or incident.
Video Surveillance Cameras
HD Digital CCTV Surveillance Cameras and HD/megapixel technology enables network cameras to provide higher resolution of video images than analog CCTV, i.e. the ability to see more details or have a wider coverage – a key consideration in video surveillance applications. With an HDTV or megapixel network camera, the resolution is at least eight times better than an analog CCTV camera.
See below a comparison from standard Analogue definition to a HD Digital Video Surveillance system -
Combining HDTV/megapixel network cameras or HD Digital CCTV Cameras with a selection of non-megapixel network cameras that are optimized for other needs (such as powerful optical zoom, extreme light sensitivity or low cost) creates video surveillance installations that are effective, reliable and cost-efficient.
HD Video Surveillance Cameras
HDTV and HD digital CCTV cameras network cameras have an important role to play in video surveillance applications. HD surveillance cameras can provide images that are more useful, with more image detail and with wider coverage than standard resolution cameras. Depending on your requirements, HD digital CCTV cameras can bring the advantages of HDTV, megapixel and network technology to your surveillance application.
For overview applications like parking surveillance and general customer movements, sufficient resolution and coverage of a scene may be achieved with a single HDTV/megapixel network HD surveillance camera or a number of non-megapixel network cameras.
Then there are demanding situations where you need to be able to identify persons or objects in a scene. This could be point-of-sales monitoring where it is necessary to clearly see every item a customer is purchasing, or situations where you need to be able to identify a face. High detail images can be achieved by installing a HD digital CCTV camera with a telescopic lens or a lens with zoom capability to enable a closer view of the area of interest, or by placing the camera close to the area to be monitored.
Using a HDTV or HD digital CCTV camera in all such cases will provide even higher resolution images with more details than a non-megapixel network camera, and significantly more resolution than a standard "analog" CCTV camera.
Statistics suggest that a property with a security alarm system is less likely to be burgled than a property without an alarm system and if you have a monitored alarm system, you should be entitled to a discount on your contents insurance.
