Thieves Target Cars in Geelong & Bellarine

Recently we’ve noticed a spike in the installation of security cameras to homes and businesses throughout Geelong and the Bellarine area due to an increase in thieves breaking into cars and stealing any valuables left in them.

In a post on the Eyewatch Geelong Facebook page titled “Lock it or Lose it”, it mentions that local Police have seen a rise in theft from vehicles with 50% of the vehicles being left unlocked overnight and 100% of them having something of value in them to steal.

If we all make a more conscious effort to lock our cars and remove any valuables it could go a long way to helping reduce this kind of theft and also free up our police resources for more important issues.

It is so often the case that we are called to install security cameras after an incident like a vehicle break in right outside someone’s home or business. Having outdoor CCTV security cameras out the front of your home, in your carport or garage can act as great deterrent and by recording Ultra Hi Definition footage even at night, it’s much easier to identify these perpetrators and have them caught.

When thieves see that a home or a business has security cameras installed they are more likely to move on unless they are extremely brazen, and in that case you may be able to supply security footage to police to help in their investigations. This not only helps the police with taking thieves off the street but it can help put a stop to these kinds of incidents in your community and help to reunite victims with their stolen property.
