Chinese surveillance companies Hikvision and Dahua have been sanctioned by the US Government for human rights abuses. These sanctions effectively ban US companies from dealing with Hikvision and Dahua.
The sanctions were imposed because Hikvision and Dahua have been implicated in human rights violations with the implementation of China’s campaign of repression, specifically the detention and high-tech surveillance of Uighurs, Kazakhs and other members of Muslim minority groups in China (for more information on this check out the report on the IPVM website).
Back in September 2018 the ABC 7:30 Report did a piece on how the US and Australian Governments were banning the use of Hikvision and Dahua security equipment alleging they could be accessed through the internet for the purpose of espionage. The Australian defence department also said that they would replace any Hikvision cameras installed at any Australian defence locations to ensure our National Security is not compromised. At Geelong Security Systems we only install high quality CCTV cameras manufactured for Samsung, Panasonic and other reputable brands and have never used or installed the Dahua or Hikvision products even though they are a cheaper option.
Many of our competitors use the Hikvision and Dahua security cameras so it is important to make sure your surveillance system is secure. If you have these security cameras installed and would like them replaced with a non-Chinese brand please contact us on 0417 384 787.
